CIS-A2K/Reports/CIS-A2K Quarterly Report 6/Odia

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Overview[edit]

CIS-A2K's Programme Officer Subhashish Panigrahi's talk on Odia language computing at International Conclave for Odia language 2015, New Delhi (in Odia).

During this quarter Odia Wikipedia has seen a hike of very active editors from one to four almost after a year. CIS-A2K has a small contribution to this in encouraging online contributors while there was not much offline outreach activity conducted or supported. The number of new editors has declined and is a concern. Lack of more offline outreach is one of the reasons for this which generally contribute significantly in new editor growth. Total number of active editors have remained more or less the same. The growth in number of articles shows stability. One Odia editor Sailesh Patnaik attended the "Train-the-trainers organized by CIS-A2K which was quite useful to work on expanding the collaboration with Archeological Society of India (ASI), Odia newspaper "The Dharitri", Department of Tourism and Culture, and the ST & SC Development, Monorities & Backward Classes Department of the Government of Odisha. To build a work plan for the coming year CIS-A2K had a detailed discussion with the Odia Wikimedia community. This has contrubited greatly in designing two work plans; for Odia Wikipedia and Odia Wikisource. CIS-A2K has also contributed to spreading awareness about use of Odia language on the Internet in international conferences like "International Conclave for Odia language 2015, New Delhi" and via newspaper op-eds.
