Summary: The Wiki Loves SDGs Campus Tour which ran across 3 selected universities including the Kwara State University Malete in June raised awareness on creating and improving Sustainable Development Goals related Wikipedia articles with a focus on recruiting and training new volunteer editors there by advocating for open education in your region.

The WikiLovesSDGs Campus Tour which was held between the 14th to 15th of June with over 30 students across different departments in Kwara State University actively engaged students and academic staff of the institution in creating and improving SDGs-related Wikipedia articles and drew their attention to the Global Goals movement as a whole. The programme's activities included;

  • Improving flagged Wikipedia articles related to the SDGs
  • Adding citations to articles lacking citations
  • Improving stub articles related to SDGs
  • Updating SDG related articles

The 2-days campaign which was led by Precious Obiora and facilitated by James Popoola , Mayokun Akinyemi , Godstime Elijah ,Bukola James recorded over 40 references added and over 30 articles edited on Wikipedia relating to SDGs.

The first day of the tour exposed the students to the concept of SDGs, their impacts on the global world, and how to promote them using Wikipedia, whilst learning how to create an account, understanding the 5 pillars of Wikipedia, and adding citations to Wikipedia articles. On the second day of the tour the participants were divided into groups to work on different SDG-related articles.
