Efik Wikimedians Community is a non recognized group dedicated to promoting Wikimedia projects in Efik language and topics relating to its people, history, norms and culture. Efik is the indigenous language of the Efik people, who are situated in the present-day Cross River state and Akwa Ibom state of Nigeria, as well as in the North-West of Cameroon. The group is open to membership by interested individuals with shared interests.
Objectives[edit]
- To promote Wikimedia projects.
- To increase the visibility of Ibibio language on the internet.
- To encourage Efik people that are literate in Efik language to become contributors and involved as community members.
- To promote topics relating to Efik language, history and culture.
- To promote editing of Wikimedia projects in Efik language by organizing events such as edit-a-thons, contests, educational outreaches and photowalks.
- To create awareness of Wikimedia projects in Efik language through promotional campaigns.
Activities[edit]
- Organize edit-a-thons in order to engage and help new contributors and volunteers to develop Efik Wikipedia and contribute to Wikimedia projects in general.
- Train new volunteers, editors and contributors to translate and create new contents on Efik Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects in general.
- Organize regular in-person and online meetings, workshops and discussions that will move the group forward.
- Organize editing contests to encourage new and existing editors to contribute to Efik Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects in general.
- Organize educational outreaches and photowalks to support and promote the Wikimedia movement.
