Tax deductibility[edit]

Hi {{ticket.requester.first_name}},

Thank you for your email.

The Wikimedia Foundation is a charitable organization with tax-exempt status in the United States. Our exemption status varies in other countries depending on local laws. Please check the following page for details on whether your donation is exempt in your country: https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Deductibility_of_donations

For your reference, our Tax ID number is: 20-0049703.

We are currently working with our chapters to provide exemption status in as many places as possible; please bear with us, as this can be a lengthy process.

I hope this answers your question. If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to contact us again.

Sincerely,

Expand Mobile Giving[edit]

Hi {{ticket.requester.first_name}},

Thank you for your email.

We are currently working to implement a mobile donation option, and hope to have this ready in the coming months. A complete and updated list of donation options can be found at http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Ways_to_Give/en, and any future payment methods will be added there as they become available.

I hope this helps answer your question. Please feel free to contact us with any further questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Unaccepted Payment Method[edit]

Hi {{ticket.requester.first_name}},

Thank you for your email and for your interest in supporting the Wikimedia Foundation.

I apologize that we are unable to accept donations via your chosen payment method -- we are limited by international laws and by our ability to implement new payment processors. In future fundraisers, we hope to have additional donation options. You may also want to see this page: https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Ways_to_Give/en for other options.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience. Please feel free to contact us with any further questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Advertising[edit]

Hi {{ticket.requester.first_name}},

Thank you for your email -- we are occasionally asked why the Foundation doesn’t turn to advertising to raise the money needed to support our operations.

The Foundation is not against the world of online advertising or against other organizations that host ads, but it does not believe that advertising belongs in a project devoted to education, particularly one that is driven by the values consistent with a balanced, neutral encyclopedia. The global volunteer community has always felt that advertising would have a major effect on our ability to stay neutral and that ultimately ads would weaken the readers' overall confidence in the articles they are reading. Even if advertisers put no pressure on us to slant articles to their favor, readers may fear that they exert an influence, consciously or otherwise.

In addition, the Foundation has strong views about reader privacy. Current models for web advertising are inconsistent with these, particularly contextual advertising (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contextual_advertising), which reads the content you are viewing. The Foundation also thinks it intrusive to deliver ads to readers based on their geography.

If you'd like to read more about the history of discussions about advertising Wikipedia - including both pros and cons - the volunteer community has written a page about it at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Advertisements.

Thank you again for your interest, and please feel free to contact us in the future with any further questions.

Sincerely,

Credit/Debit Card[edit]

Hi {{ticket.requester.first_name}},

Thank you for your email, and I apologize that you have had trouble using our donation form.

If your payment was rejected or if you were not able to enter your card information on our donation page, please check your debit/credit card for the following cases:

a) Your credit/debit card should be enabled for International use. Cards that can only be used in country (AKA Domestic cards) may not be accepted at this time.

b) United States, Great Britain and Canadian credit cards will only be accepted in these respective countries.

c) Not all Virtual Cards may be accepted at this time. Virtual cards are frequently used for online purchases to protect your physical card's sensitive information. However, rest assured that our donation processing if backed up by professional, fully compliant processors and your information is extremely secure. So if your virtual card gets rejected, please use your regular credit/debit card instead.

d) If you are using your debit card, please notice that the security code (CVV) is optional. If your debit card doesn't have a CVV just skip that field.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we are limited to the options our payment processors offer and we hope to add more in the future. For other donations options, please visit http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Ways_to_Give/en. Please feel free to contact us with any further questions or concerns, or with any more information regarding your donation issue.

Sincerely,

Request for Help[edit]

Hi {{ticket.requester.first_name}},

Thank you for thinking of the Wikimedia Foundation in this matter.

As you may already know, the Wikimedia Foundation is a charitable entity that relies on the goodwill of our users and friends. Ours is a nonprofit charitable organisation with a very specific goal, which is to develop and maintain online free, open content encyclopedias, collections of quotations, textbooks and other collections of documents, information, and other informational databases in all the languages of the world that will be distributed free of charge to the public. As we are a nonprofit organisation incorporated in Florida, United States, local and national laws prohibit us from using our funds or resources for anything but this purpose.

We regret that we are unable to assist you.

Sincerely,

Start Recurring Donation[edit]

Hi {{ticket.requester.first_name}},

Thank you for your email and your interest in supporting the Wikimedia Foundation. An automatic monthly donation can be made online via PayPal or using your credit/debit card here: http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Ways_to_Give/en.

Thank you again for your support of the Wikimedia Foundation and free knowledge. Please feel free to contact us with any further questions.

Sincerely,

Donation via Cash[edit]

Hi {{ticket.requester.first_name}},

Thank you for your email. The Wikimedia Foundation accepts donations by check, credit card, PayPal, bank transfer, as well as many other options based on your country. Unfortunately, the Wikimedia Foundation does not accept donations by cash. Please see http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Ways_to_Give/en for more information on how you can give to the Wikimedia Foundation.

Sincerely,

Bank Transfer-Worldwide[edit]

Hi Template:Ticket.requester.first name,

Thank you for your email and interest in supporting free knowledge. While the Wikimedia Foundation does not have a local bank account in your country, we do have two accounts that accept international transfers: https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Ways_to_Give/en#Bank_transfer

US Bank

Wikimedia Foundation Citibank 590 Market Street San Francisco, US 94104 415-982-2960

International SWIFT code CITIUS33 A/C# 203129580

European Union Bank

Wikimedia Foundation J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, N.A., London 25 Bank Street Canary Wharf London E14 5JP

Account number: IBAN GB49CHAS60924241034730 BIC CHASGB2L

A couple of things to keep in mind when making an international transfer:

1. The Wikimedia Foundation attempts to receive funds in your currency, but this is not always possible due to international and bank regulations.

2. The Foundation does not charge a transfer fee for donations, but this is something that your local bank may initiate.

We highly recommend checking with your local bank before initiating a transfer to make sure you understand any charges that you may incur by making a donation to Wikimedia. Thank you again for your support, and please feel free to contact us with any further questions.

Sincerely,

Donation Security[edit]

Donor Suggestion TY[edit]

Hi Template:Ticket.requester.first name,

Sincerely,
