Academics and Scientists are parts of the notable people of Wikipedia and its sisters' projects. The notabilities are established in their professorships, scholarships, members of international academia, reliable media coverages and being the leadership of a tertiary institution. In Africa, there are thousands of active and notable professors and scientists that cut across different disciplines. However, only few are represented on the global encyclopedia and it's sister project. To the extent that there are some notable African scientists and academics who have been forgotten after their demise. For instance my collaboration with @FuzzyMagma in 2022 led to the creation of article such as [Samson Gombe] who had died since 1989. [[1]] died in 2001, [Kalenga] who died in 2011 and [[2]] who died in 2015.

Also, the few scientists and academics who have found their ways into Wikipedia and its sisters projects are male. over the years, we have tried to also close the gender gaps by creating quality articles around women scientist and academics. For instance [Farida], [Florence] [[3]] etc

To properly represent these two interwoven categories, we have created hundreds of quality articles around academics and scientists in Africa which can be seen here [[4]] and [[5]]. After deliberation with some of the usernames who have contributed immensely to articles related to African academics and scientists, we were motivated not only to further train both active and new editors on how to improve and create articles for notable academics and scientists in Africa but to also establish a regional campaign titled Wiki Loves AfroDemics; an annual campaign that will focus on improving articles about African academics and scientists for sustainability.

Approaches

1. Training and Recruiting new editors: The program would train 50 volunteers in four African universities on how to positively contribute to articles relating to African academics and scientists. The universities are; Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State University, Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo and Pen Resource University. The reason for choosing these universities are;

Familiarity: The project lead and some of the facilitators are familiar with the school administration and students. Some of them have carried out programmes in the school and there are guaranteed assurances that the project would be accepted and supported by the students and staff.

Proximity: All the four schools are within the geographical area and it will be very easy for the facilitators and volunteers to carry out the programmes effectively.

Closing Knowledge Gaps: The training would close the knowledge gaps by digging deep into some notable but forgotten African scientists and academics on Wikipedia and Wikidata.

2. Closing Gender Gaps: The training would take into consideration the gender gaps that exist on Wikipedia. Therefore, the project would close the gender both in the recruitment and contribution process.
3. Improving existing articles: Most of the articles about Nigerian academics and scientists are stubs. They lack appropriate categorisation, no description and are without images. The participants would be trained on how to successfully improve them.
5. Creating articles: The project's team are volunteers who have displayed extraordinary mastery of creating notable and qualitative articles. You can check it here https://xtools.wmcloud.org/pages/en.wikipedia.org/FuzzyMagma and here https://xtools.wmcloud.org/pages/en.wikipedia.org/Ibjaja055. The participants would be highly trained to be able to identify, source for reliable references and create notable and qualitative articles.
6. Edit-a-thon: After the editors have been trained on how to create and improve articles related to African academics and scientists, there will be a closely monitored edit-a-thon for each of the country that would be used to massively improve Wikipedia and it's sisters' project.
7. Regional campaign: For sustainability Wiki Loves AfroDemics would be a yearly regional campaign that would be open to all solely for the improvement and creation of articles about African academics and Scientists
