Goals[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes, I met the goals and expectations of the project. Yes, I am happy with how the project went, to some extent.

Outcome[edit]

Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

  • Target outcome was 20 participants but there were 28 participants plus the facilitators making it 31
  • I reached my target and well above it
  • I achieved the milestone because of the because of the aggressive awareness I put up on the social media as as well as the messages and one-on-one
sensitization on the benefits of editing Wikimedia awareness.
  • Thus, I had a surge and both the new and the old editors doubled the expectation.

Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
    • There was quite a good number of new participants
    • The participants gained knowledge and skills in editing Wikimedia.
    • New editors willingly signed up, contributed and improved the article
    • The internet worked well
    • Online training took place for those who were not physically present

  • What did not work so well?
    • Some intended editors were blocked when they were trying to sign up. This dampened their spirits as they could not join directly with their devices. They joined others in learning. It denied them direct editing to their names
    • The online training experienced internet disruptions at some points
    • The resources budgeted for did not go round because there was 50% addition to the original logistics. This caused internet issues. Even the refreshment could not go round
    • Even the old editors were blocked at some points

  • What would you do differently next time? Create the new participant's username a day prior to the day of project.
    • Planning for more logistics to accommodate any eventuality
    • Planning for more than one internet source to avoid interference
    • Controlling the number of participants to avoid overshooting of the budget

Anything else[edit]

Anything else you want to share about your project?

As the event was highly successful, I humbly request that the extra money put in it to accommodate all the participants be reimbursed. The event was shared in all the social media accounts of the facilitators and tagged the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria (WUGN) and other Wikimedia communities in twitter. The Wikimedia and Wikipedia with other handles were tagged. This gained global popularity and commendations online as well as getting more followers to the Wikimedia Nigeria twitter handles. Also there was publication of the event in an established online newspaper that enhance visbility and notability of the program and user group.
