Goals[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

During the campaign and training, our main goal was to increase the number of active editors and contributors. This was exceeded by attracting 16 new editors to the platform, who collectively made 821 edits to improve existing articles and created 18 new articles and 12 uploads to wikicommons. The participants gave positive feedback and were motivated to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Overall, the project was a great success, and we are very happy with how it went.

Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

*What worked well?

The outreach efforts, which included targeted social media posts and banner campaigns, were effective in attracting a diverse group of participants. The training sessions, which was conducted by experienced Wikipedian, were engaging, and provided the participants with a clear understanding of the basics of Wikipedia editing. Our follow-up sessions, which were conducted after the initial training, were useful in helping the participants apply what they had learned and stay engaged to continue editing throughout the edit-a-thon.

*What did not work so well?

  • Initially, there was logistical issues, and difficulty finding suitable venues for the training session.
  • some of the participants were late to the training sessions and there was a bit of delay to start because of this and some others found the technical aspects of editing to be challenging, which led to frustration and difficult for them to create new content.

*What would you do differently next time?

  • Plan our training sessions more carefully to ensure that they are scheduled at times that are convenient for participants and that suitable venues are sorted well in advance.
  • Offer variety of resources to help participants identify topics to edit and improve their writing skills, like including a hybrid event to accommodate online participants.

By reflecting on what worked well, what did not work so well, and what could be done differently next time, I hope to improve our outreach efforts in the future and help others plan a similar projects.
