Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • This proposal aims to support the Tyap Wikimedians in their outing for the Wiki Loves Africa 2024 photo contest. It would grant the community the financial strength to transport, hire good cameras, get data packages to upload multimedia content, give the prizes we initially had in mind to give to the top winners, and feed during the group walk.

Project Goal[edit]

Choose one or more of the following goals. Feel free to add or delete goals as required by your project.

  1. Add quality multimedia contents in line with the WLA 2024 theme, "Africa Creates", on Wikimedia Commons

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We aim to carry out a day's training on what is required of every participant before setting out on the second and third days to take the multimedia contents and upload them within the following two weeks before WLA 2024 closes up on uploads.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

The Tyap community has already been notified since 13 January 2024, im the Community Portal of the Tyap Wikipedia about the WLA 2024 event.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

We have earlier shared a Google Form questionnaire with our community on social media dating 3 March 2024 on this event. Please find the link here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/11pblMb5_ZzWZcNAsmKGyzZrh7omhLvzM77DhRfDotMc/edit. We also have a landing page for the event. Social media plays a vital role on event invitation dissemination for us.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse your proposal as proof of availability)
For example: User:Kaizenify

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Participants would require good cameras to participate in the event, although a good camera is not the prerequisite for obtaining better images but it supports the process. We aim at getting our team members hired cameras and giving everyone a day's training on what is required of everyone in the WLA 2024 outing. We also hope to support everyone with the data to upload their best images.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

We will continue our engagement on the private Telegram chat group created for this purpose. We will also talk on phone when necessary to.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

The project was initially meant to be sponsored from a Rapid Grant fund applied for to the Foundation, but it was not funded for the reason that a co-account holder in our organization was blocked on the English Wikipedia and although no longer under any block, the decision was not reversed. Hence the need for this proposal so we can participate in WLA 2024.

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets (only those applicable to your project):

  1. Number of events - 1
  2. Number of participants - 7
  3. Number of new editors - 3
  4. Number of articles created - N/A
  5. Number of articles improved - N/A
  6. Number of images uploaded - 700
  7. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events) - N/A

Metrics tracking[edit]

How do you plan to track your project metrics?

The statistics would be tracked on our local landing page for the event.

Resources[edit]

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

We have experienced editors who have participated in two previously organised photowalks by our user group.

  2. Friday musa is in-charge of recruiting participants as the project manager
  3. Valtino44 is in-charge of scouting for the places to be visited by the team as the field officer, which would have to be done through personal financing
