Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • As a result of the different projects I've led in Kano State, there are more editors of Wikimedia projects in the region. Many editors are focused on Wikipedia and Wikidata. Individually, editors often asking me for more information about many questions related to Wikimedia Commons, because of this I understand some problems with editors that I wanted to solve. The problems include;
  • Lack of contribution to Wikimedia Commons
  • Lack of experience in using files especially photos to other Wikimedia Projects like Wikipedia, wikidata and e.t.c
  • Not knowing how to add files to Wikidata Items

This program will help to solve these problems that editors from my area are usually asking me.

The purpose of this program is to teach editors some important things that will help them in their editing. I want to teach people how to upload files to Wikimedia Commons, especially photos and audio files. And how to use files in Wikipedia and Wiktionary. I will also teach them how to add files to Wikidata Items.

Being a well-known Wikimedia person I get a lot of calls and messages from young people who are interested in contributing to Wikimedia Projects, I organized this project because I brought these young people together inorder to teach them how Wikimedia Commons is.

This program is an opportunity to further develop Wikimedia Commons in Kano State, the most populous state in Northern Nigeria and the second in Nigeria. The project is also the first of its kind in Kano State about Wikimedia Commons. This project is important to my community because, to the best of my knowledge, a program related to this Wikimedias sisters project hasn't been organized before now in my Kano community.
