  • The project is intended to join the global wikidata community to celebrate Wikidata 10th Birthday. The event will feature workshop to train newcomers and also engage both active Wikipedia editors and non-editors into Wikidata editing, and Q&A on Wikipedia Basics for newbies.

Project Goal[edit]

  1. Create awareness about Wikidata and it's importance as a structured multilingual to Wikimedia project.
  2. Recruit new Wikidata editors and improve the skills of existing Wikipedia editors
  3. Enrich existing and create new content (data on places, monument, parastatas, and notable people)
  4. Practical sessions to guide new editors to create items

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. 3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them? the Nigerian Wikipedia community WhatsApp platform
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

An announcement will be made on the Community Wikimedia WhatsApp platform.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
For example: User:Kaizenify

  • Meritkosy is an experienced editor and fellow, WikiAfLib Course and an active contributor on #1LibRef and #AfLibWk project.
  • Atibrarian is an experienced community organiser and trainer who will be available to facilitate the wiki data workshop.
  • Hackesan will be working closely with the project lead and support the facilitator to ensure achieving the deliverable.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high-quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Participants will be participating with their laptops or smartphones.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)? The community WhatsApp group will be utilized in keeping participants updated with the latest developments during and after the programme. 7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

The lack of knowledge about Wikidata and how to contribute structured data in mapping information for easy access and integration into Wikimedia projects necessitate needing to invest in the capacity development and sustainability of the fast-growing community in an underrepresented region (Northeast Nigeria). The program will serve as an avenue to recruit new editors and improve the skills of already existing volunteers.

  • User:Meritkosy: will be facilitate the concept wiki data and its relevant to Wikimedia projects
  • User: Atibrarian will be facilitating the practical session on how create new wiki data item, adding statements, images, coordinates, and linking items to wikimedia projects - Wikipedia, Commons.

2. Data Subscription for participants + trainer 30 × 1000= NGN30,000
3. Alternative Energy × 2day = NGN10,000
4. Refreshments @NGN3,000 ×30 = N90,000
5. Roll-up banners = NGN15,000
6. Projector rental + Photography ×1 = 5000
