  • This project is aimed at sensitizing and equipping postgraduate students of the faculty of Agriculture, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) to contribute content to English Wikipedia through the #1lib1ref program, which will go on to improve their research, digital literacy and critical thinking skills, as well as enriching Wikipedia with more useful content.

It will be one edit-a-thon and one training

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

I will be reaching the participants through SMS messages, WhatsApp and Telegram broadcasts and one-on-one word of mouth invitation.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.

Yes, I do have very experienced and competent Wikipidians to help with the programme. Notable among them are; User:Ngozi osadebe, User:Ezimoo, User:ugoji.john and myself User:Baruch Omale who have attained proficiency in Wikipedia editing as an active member and participant in the Wikipedia community in University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Yes, the participants have the equipment needed for the training as the University computer laboratory is well equipped with laptop computers that will be used for the training. As for the skills needed, there will be one day refresher training for participants before the edit-a-thon event.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

Participants will be engaged after the event through a WhatsApp group that will be created for all who will take part in the project.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

The postgraduate students community of the faculty of Agriculture, University of Nigeria, Nsukka is well endowed with a pool of intellectuals, most of which have no idea of Wikipedia editing and its proper usage. This project is aimed at bridging this knowledge gap, thereby creating an avenue for the optimum usage of the Wikipedia platform by the students as well as enriching Wikipedia with more useful and reliable content.

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events 2
  2. Number of participants 25
  3. Number of new editors 20
  4. Number of of articles created or improved 50
  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events) 25

The success of this project will be accessed through the number of articles which will be created or improved upon and the number of new editors that will be recruited. Two events (one edit-a-thon and one training) will be hosted with 25 participants, where 20 of those participants will be new editors. In total, 50 articles will be created and improved upon during the project duration.

Resources[edit]

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

I, User:Baruch Omale will be organizing the project. I will be facilitating the project alongside my team at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka Wikipedia community. I will carryout all necessary planning and logistics activities needed for the project along with my friends at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka Wikipedia community.

There will be no support whether in-kind donations or additional funding from anywhere else for this project.

What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.

For the successful execution of this project, the following will be needed;

1. Hall rentage: ₦10,000 × 2 days = ₦20,000
2. Internet subscription for the two days: ₦20,000
3. projector rental: ₦5,000 × 2 days = ₦10,000
4. Diesel for generator: 30 liters at ₦750 per liters = ₦22,500
5. Flex banner: 2 at N7,500 = ₦15,000
6. Feeding: ₦1,500 per day × 2 days × 25 participants = ₦75,000
6. Souvenir for 25 participants: ₦1,000 per item × 25 participants = ₦25,000
7. Miscellaneous: ₦10,000
8. Total: ₦197,500
