Comments on WMSE’s impact report from FDC staff[edit]

Thank you for submitting this complete report and sharing your learning with us and the movement more broadly! We appreciate that this report provides a good level of detail. It is clear that Wikimedia Sverige is leading a large number of activities, including hosting a very large number of events! We see that you are applying lessons learned around your approaches to edit-a-thons by shifting your strategy to more intensive events that could be more likely to engage editors and we are interested to learn about the results of this in the coming year. We hope you will consider publishing some learning patterns around this topic as you document your learning in this area. We also understand that you were hoping to learn from the editor survey (run in the past by WMF), and we will make sure your interest in this survey is noted by WMF.

While it is difficult to understand the success of your programs since clear objectives were not provided in your original proposal, we do appreciate where you are able to provide specific numbers to indicate your success in different program areas and hope that we can work toward establishing better baselines to understand success. We are sure this will improve in the coming year, as Wikimedia Sverige has already set clearer objectives for its programs in its current proposal. We very much appreciated the metrics you included under “GROWTH”, as it offered significant insights to the content impact of your programming. We’d love to know more about use and quality in the reports for the coming year.

We understand that Wikimedia Sverige sees increased credibility in Sweden as key to its success in working with partners, and that establishing this credibility is a successful aspect of its work. We see you are well on your way in establishing Wikimedia Sverige as a key player in the GLAM field. We hope this will enable future GLAM work and education work, as well as aid Wikimedia Sverige’s community of volunteers in their work (as it did in the example of the photographer you noted). Wikimedia Sverige prioritizes providing direct support to its communities and building good connections with its volunteers. We appreciate that, and hope Wikimedia Sverige develops more ways of understanding the impact of this approach over time.

Wikimedia Sverige was able to adapt to changing circumstances by pursuing new opportunities in the education sector as well as responding to challenges with raising revenue outside of the FDC process. We appreciate that you continue to focus spending and energy directly on programs, even when revenue targets are not reached as expected. As you develop your programs, we hope to see an increasingly focused and systematic approach that strongly links your many activities together. We encourage you to become more reflective in your reporting, and share what doesn’t work along with what is working well. This will give us all a better understanding of Wikimedia Sverige’s work. Thank you for sharing your reflections with us all.
