Comments from FDC staff on Wikimedia UK’s Q3 report[edit]

Greetings, colleagues and friends! Thank you for your work in this report. We enjoyed reading it and reviewing all the details that you shared. KLove (WMF) (talk) 21:37, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciation[edit]

  • Thank you for your part in supporting Wikimania, and for the follow up work you did with the new volunteers engaged through that event. What a successful event, a tremendous accomplishment for all involved!
  • Congratulations on the good marks for quality achieved through your Wiki Loves Monuments implementation.
  • Once again this quarter, an impressive amount of content has been added on Welsh Wikipedia.
  • We find it valuable that you track valued, featured, and quality images in the growth section. Thanks for providing this information. While it was difficult to understand your quarter-to-quarter success in the overview, this was easy to understand on a detailed level through your report card table showing your metrics from quarter to quarter.
  • The images in Photographing UK Cathedrals are beautiful! Along those lines, we'd love to see some images in your next reports.
  • We were interested to see the Stub Contest revitalized as a way to generate articles (362 stubs created). Please let us know whether those articles get expanded over time, and what the outcomes of those stubs are.
  • We appreciate the way you shared the work of the Wikimedians in Residence as part of your approach to increasing usage of content. We find those two examples to be quite interesting!
  • We have found the reputational ratings to be a unique way to quantify your work in partnerships.

Points for improvement[edit]

  • While we see that descriptions of your activities are included in your report card table, you do not systematically include detailed information about what went well, what did not go well, and what your organization learned for each program. This question is important for us to understand your work. We are flexible about the reporting format, but we need all required information to be included. At this point, it’s not necessary to add this information to the Q3 report, as you will be working toward the impact report now. We urge you to ensure that this information is included in future reports, including the impact report.
  • With the change in reporting format, don’t neglect to include images and other media, to make your reports more engaging and illustrate your work. You have some fabulous images to showcase!
  • For those objectives not including clear targets, it is more difficult to understand why progress is considered adequate or not. We urge WMUK to move toward setting clear targets around future work in order to define progress clearly. We know you are working on it and do appreciate the changes and improvements over the last several quarters.
  • We noted that you see meetups as a way to support diversity, and it would be ideal to include a bit more information about how you hope to see this strategy pan out, as well as what you are seeing come out of these meetups.
  • In a similar vein, while we’re glad to see you reporting on your work on gender in your volunteer section, we’d love to have a better sense of how your other work related to gender is going.
