Train the trainers[edit]

yes, i support this. i got a request, for an expedited wikisource upload process, from a GLAM webmaster. as a baby step, train veteran editors in the coding, to train GLAMs. Slowking4 (talk) 03:50, 10 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Venue[edit]

The proposed venue for this would be the 2014 Wikiconference United States. I think that this would be a great way to get international participation and expand the small community of Wikisorcerers into the general Wikimedia community. I just uploaded my first document on Wikisource earlier this month and just transcluded it yesterday. I did this after getting in-person training from people who use Wikisource, and I would not have persisted had I not met people who already understood how to do this. It is not intuitive to experienced Wikipedians!

At the 2013 Wikimania Jimbo Wales said that he hoped Wikisource among all other Wikimedia projects would have the greatest future growth because it provides infrastructure to back up so much of what everyone else is doing. I am already planning to attend all future USA Wikiconferences and I expect that I would always want to join in organizing the Wikisource outreach activities at each one. I would love to promote Wikisource training as an expected part of all USA conferences. Blue Rasberry (talk) 11:25, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is a good idea and I agree about the need for in-person training. I think though that before a training session is developed, it would be nice to get some basic intro videos up & running. A quick in-person training will not be enough to remember all the steps. It really is pretty complicated and not at all easy in the way that correcting a spelling mistake on Wikipedia can be. Jane023 (talk) 22:09, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

GLAMs and Wikisource[edit]

This is a no-brainer ... anyone with an interest in developing GLAM projects would benefit from having these skills. Thanks for the suggestion. Bdcousineau (talk) 15:47, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

Thanks much for the support, all. I find Wikisource is not so easy to learn -- and I appreciate the statements. It's not hard for me to use, which is different. I think we have the support needed to file to WMF for conference funding. -- Econterms (talk) 16:36, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like a good use of a Projects & Events Grant, as a starting point for conference support. Good luck! Siko (WMF) (talk) 02:50, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
