Support[edit]

This project is very useful for improving education for big target area students. Especially in the last 2 years, during the pandemic, children from families without internet had a lot of problems due to their falling behind of study. But such offline educational DVDs and classes will be an important help for many children to catch up their studies. email: daagii92001 at yahoo dot com Ts.Darkhanbat (talk) 07:49, 15 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Support I support. In Mongolia, there are very few projects aimed at eliminating the backwardness of secondary education. However, this project will provide offline students with much needed learning resources, which will greatly support their learning environment. A student will be able to carry hundreds of volumes of Wikipedia encyclopedia plus free books on his home computer and mobile phone to improve his or her own education is very well targeted solution for current Mongolia.

Also, the English language textbook that is going to be developed by this team is the first time in Mongolia with an innovative learning approach that will attract many students, which is another progress for domestic education.

31. & 32. Please provide a budget for the amount of funding requested.[edit]

Hello, will you make the budget in detail with a spreadsheet, for example, like this? YShibata (talk) 11:46, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I have uploaded our budget excel file into my application files upload section. I was expecting any reviewer could access my uploaded files. Because on that file upload section all uploaded files budget etc will be public. I will contact Jacqueline Chen about this and will give you more details. Orgio89 (talk) 05:11, 20 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Just got answer from Jacqueline that my budget and strategic plan files will be visible within next 1 or 2 days. Orgio89 (talk) 07:03, 20 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hello Orgio, I'm sorry I should've deleted my comment 19 October soon after Jacqulene contacted me that your detailed budget would be visible soon. I'm very impressed by your programs, and sincerely hope your successes. with respect, YShibata (talk) 05:01, 12 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

General Support Fund proposal approved in the amount of MNT 59,112,540[edit]

Congratulations! Your grant is approved in the amount of MNT 59,112,5040 with a grant term starting 1 January 2023 and ending 31 December 2023. If you require a time extension to the above duration, you can get in touch with your programme officer during the implementation phase. See also note below.

With this grant, we hope to support your efforts in collaborating with a network of schools to increase awareness of wikiprojects and use wikipedia as a tool to improve english language skills among high school students.

We recognise the value of your application:

Notable

  • Revive Wikimedia movement efforts in Mongolia
  • Application is in line with increasing awareness and participation in the movement. Could be seen as a project that is built up in phases, beginning with increasing awareness through teacher/ student networks
  • Has a detailed implementation plan on stakeholders to engage and reach out to through existing networks

And are aware of some risks

  • Standalone project; activities may discontinue once funding ceases
  • Limited online presence of the applicant, partners and impact of the project in Mongolia which makes it difficult to verify facts or details.

Collectively, the ESEAP Funding Committee agreed that it would be useful for you to be aware of the work of others in the movement which may spur further learning and reflection on your implementation approach. Here are some resources that could serve as a starting point:

We’ve also included further observations and recommendations on the application from the review process. For more details, refer to the summary table below.

Next steps

  • Let’s continue having regular conversations over the course of your grant implementation. Do set up a regular schedule to connect with your ESEAP Programme Officer based on your needs.
  • We also hope to connect you with other affiliates or wikimedians who could act as additional resources during your project implementation.
  • The reporting requirements for the grant can be found here and templates are available here. Timelines for reporting can be found in your grant agreement or on Fluxx. All reports are to be completed and submitted via Fluxx.

Once again, Congratulations! We thank you for your participation in the grant application process and hope to continue to journey with you as you embark on a new year of project implementation.

General Clarity

(e.g. vision, change, strategy, learnings)

(NF) I wonder what kind of DVD content that you will distribute? Is it the same content as the DVD project in 2017?

(EW) The applicant mentioned that the distribution of Wikipedia DVD and Editing User Guide had significantly increased the registration number of Mongolian Wikipedia, but based on the data, this conclusion cannot be drawn, so it is difficult to assess the causal relationship between the two, and the applicant should provide stronger evidence or analysis to illustrate their inferences.

(GS) This is a chance to spread the WMF movement in Mongolia (underrepresented in ESEAP)

(BB) Strategy is unclear to me

(EW) The applicant has ambitious goals and visions, but the solutions adopted seem to be difficult to achieve.

(BB) What is the organisation's strategy in reaching a goal of making a vibrant Mongolian Wikimedia Community and eventually a user group through this budget?
Impact potential and strategic alignment(e.g. strategy, activities alignment with knowledge equity, movement strategy, welcoming underrepresented communities, community support) (BB) I am not sure if it has a demand for Mongolia to increase its content on Wikimedia projects

(NF) Mongolia has a small appearance on wikipedia. It is hoped that this project can help improve content on Wikipedia Mongolia because I saw only a few edits per day on Wikipedia Mongolia using mobile phones.

(EW) Proposed proposal goals include training students in Mongolia to bring in new contributors to Wikipedia, though no clear strategy seems to be articulated for how to retain them.

Organisational capacity and budget(e.g. budget, learnings, strategies for engagement) (EW) It is recommended that applicants consider other solutions to promote Wikipedia and reasonably reduce the scale of the project, rather than widely distributing large quantities of Wikipedia DVDs and Editing User Guides to schools.

(GS) Half of the project budget cost is allocated for printing Guide Books. The Guide Book will be used as an editing guide and tool. This is a bit weird as the students who have access to computers and the internet can just open commons / PDF. The DVD is fine if they have free educational video etc (better to reference Wikipedia and sister projects)

(NF) Perhaps the applicant can think about how to maintain the students who are trained to continue to contribute. For example: Do they build a community for these young students?
Learning and evaluation(e.g. learnings, metrics) (GS) They provide metrics but no tools to measure.

(EW) The applicant has set quantitative targets for the introduction of new participants and the creation of new articles, and according to the proposed proposal, the applicant will train Mongolian students to create user accounts and edit new articles. However, these quantitative indicators cannot explain the continued participation of new participants, and according to the experience of most communities, most of the new participants cannot be retained during the implementation of similar plans, which makes the target of introducing 400 new participants not realistic

Question raised during written responses that were partially answered. This can be tabled for further reflection and discussion with ESEAP PO during grant implementation

(JC) One of the ways to think about learning questions is to ask yourself if you are able to answer the questions that you pose at the end of the project and how do you plan to do it? For example, what to measure and how to measure? Is there a person or process set up to do this? Can it be included in your activity plan?

Hello, noting here that the final report submission date has been extended to 29 February 2024. If more time is needed to complete and submit the report, kindly contact eseap_fund{{@}}wikimedia.org. Many thanks -- Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 15:00, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Dear Morgan, Can you extend our project Final report submission date until 29 February 2024? Because certain few operational report generating require some extended time. Many thanks Orgio89 (talk) 15:46, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
