Comments[edit]

Dear Adefanike,

Thank you for submitting this grant application. The Wikimedia Usergroup Nigeria community Support Fund Committee has reviewed your application, and they have some follow-up questions and requests regarding your application:

  • Please clarify; is it 10 participants per meetup or a total for the two events?
  • Are there specific areas that your edit-a-thon will be focusing on?
  • What is the need to have participants from Oshogbo instead of the host city: Ibadan as we will only be supporting participants from the host city.
  • Also, footing participants' transport fare isn't something we want to encourage as contributing should be volunteering.
  • Is it possible to have one-day in-person training and convert the 2nd day to online mentoring?
  • Lastly, please explain the rationale for the souvenirs and what is it for?

We look forward to your response and thank you for your work within the Wikimedia Nigeria movement.

On behalf of the WUGN Community Support Fund Committee. All the best, Ayokanmi (WUGN) (talk) 12:27, 3 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Dear Ayokanmi,
Thank you for your response. I will respond to each point.
  • Please clarify; is it 10 participants per meetup or a total for the two events? It is at least 10 participants per meetup, however it is hoped that there will be repeat participation.
  • Are there specific areas that your edit-a-thon will be focusing on? This particular edit-a-thon is focusing on the documentation of the Yoruba people tales and folklore that are used to train, correct, reprimand and commend good works which was pivotal in the upbringing of children in the olden days. Iwa Omoluabi is an integral part of the Yoruba people's culture.
  • What is the need to have participants from Oshogbo instead of the host city: Ibadan as we will only be supporting participants from the host city. The peculiarity of this edit-a-thon informs the need to bring in people who are knowledgeable about the subject matter. Bringing in a facilitator from Oshogbo is to ensure that quality articles are created. The person from Oshogbo is a facilitator.
Also, footing participants' transport fare isn't something we want to encourage as contributing should be volunteering. Your point is understood, but I crave this exemption because these set of people are teachers who have access to pupils and students and their knowledge of the subject matter informs the need to encourage them to participate as they have the facilities to ensure a wider spread of the good the project intends to bring.
Is it possible to have one-day in-person training and convert the 2nd day to online mentoring? The idea of the two days in-person training is to ensure that every targeted participant have the opportunity of attending, given the nature of their job. The online mentoring has already been ongoing to get them interested.
Lastly, please explain the rationale for the souvenirs and what is it for? As we all know, it is said that a picture can speak 1000 words, the souvenirs is to be a veritable tool of advertisement. Wearing my 'I edit wikipedia' t-shirt has attracted one or two people that I know. I hope it will not be disapproved!
I hope I have been able to answer all questions. Thank you. Adefanike (talk) 08:06, 4 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
