Bugzilla bug 2867 is a request to allow sites, and, eventually individual users, to define their own interwiki sorting order.
Please see comments explaining how and why it should be done, and vote for the bug 2867.
[edit] By order of alphabet, based on language code
- e.g. Esperanto (eo:) before Español (es:), Suomi (fi:) somewhere before Français (fr:) and Bahasa Indonesia (id:) right before Interlingue (ie:)
- Default order for most Wikipedias
[edit] Using own language's alphabetical order
Fy: Orders i and y together. Only when two codes are otherwise the same, e.g. 'io' and 'yo', or 'hi' and 'hy', a secondary ordering is used where i goes before y. (The same holds, or should hold, for a and â, for e and ê, etc., but this has no influence on the language code order.)

- עברית (he:) - English link is first and the rest are sorted alphabetically by language code. (he:ויקיפדיה:פרלמנט/ארכיון 3)
- Magyar (hu:) - English link is first and the rest are sorted alphabetically by language code. (hu:Wikipédia:Nagykövetség)
- Norsk (nynorsk) (nn:) - Norsk (bokmål) (
[[no:]]) link is the first, then Svensk ([[sv:]]) link, then Dansk ([[da:]]) link. Then the rest by order of alphabet, based on local language (by first word). See also nn:Wikipedia:Ambassaden for details/background. - Српски / srpski (sr:) - Sorts IW by local Latin alphabet. Sorting keys are either original language names transliterated to this alphabet, or their language codes, in case there is no transliteration possible. (sample)
- Telugu (te:) - English link is the first, hi:, kn:, ta:, ml: and the rest are sorted alphabetically by language code.
- יידיש (yi:) - English link is the first, then he:, de:, and the rest are sorted alphabetically (yi:וויקיפעדיע:געמיינדע).
- Urdu (ur:) - Arabic link is first, then Persian and then English. After that, all languages are sorted alphabetically by their native name. For more details, see Urdu Wikipedia Embassey or رائے شماری برائے ترتیب روابط
