Karnal Wikimedia Meetup Number 1[edit]

About the Meetup[edit]
This meetup is the first one in Karnal. It is a casual event which aims at:
- Introducing Wikipedians of the region to each other.
- Chat about Wikipedia and other related topics.
- Experienced Wikimedians helping out new editors.
This is also an open invite for anyone interested in finding out more about Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects such as Wikimedia Commons and WikiData. New and perspective editors are also welcome.
Flow of Event[edit]
- Two new users (GangaHanspal and Hemant ki kalam) joined Hindi Wikipedia.
- RaoSahil88 introduced the new editors to the various aspects of Hindi Wikipedia from joining to editing and vandalism. He explained various Wiki Markups and the process of adding citations and links.
- Shypoetess gave an introduction of WikiCommons and copyright laws governing what kind of media can or cannot be uploaded to WikiCommons followed by a live demonstration.
- The discussion continued over snacks and went from Featured articles and Photographs to vandalism and the participants were quite excited about the future of Wikimedia movement in Karnal.
Outcomes[edit]
- This was the first meetup in Karnal and its success set up the pace for future activities.
- Two new users joined Hindi Wikipedia and were inducted in editing on Hindi Wikipedia and uploading media on WikiCommons.
- The arrangements for the upcoming Wiki Awareness Campaign event at the Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Prem Nagar, Karnal were discussed.
