Amsterdam is the capital of The Netherlands.
Amsterdam lies in the province of Noord-Holland, at the mouth of the river Amstel. The Noordzeekanaal connects it to the Nort Sea. Approximately 739.000 people live in the city itself; some 1.5 million live in the city's region. As the capital of The Netherlands, this is where coronations and royal weddings are held.
