Fiji Hindi is a language that is spoken by all Fiji citizens of Indian origin and also by many people of other races (in districts where Fiji Indians are in a majority). This language developed in Fiji about a hundred years ago from the different dialects spoken by the Indian immigrants and has also been strongly influenced by English and Fijian languages. There are some 460,000 first language speakers of the language of which 150,000 reside in Australia, New Zealand, United States and Canada.
A Fiji Hindi Wiktionary will provide this diaspora with an opportunity to have a reference source of words peculiar to this language. This will also enable Fiji Hindi writers to consolidate their attempts to develop a common standard for writing in Fiji Hindi.

Strong Support - as with the Wikipedia, I also support this...--Cometstyles 11:08, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Strong Support - Fiji Indians have been speaking the language for a long time. It is is about time a central repository of words from this unique language was created. The language contains words from Hindi, Urdu, Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Punjabi. Arabic, Persian, Fijian and English - all meshed together and spoken with a Pacific accent. Former University of the South Pacific Professor, Rodney Moag was the first to draw attention to the fact that this language has its own unique grammer which he has documented in his book. Strong Support - Although Fiji Hindi is mother tongue to 460,000 people, it has no official support - the Fiji Government does not support it (not taught in Fiji schools), educational institutions do not support it. Individual writers have been doing it on their own to write in the language. Wiktionary is a very good place to document, maintain and develop the language. Thakurji 03:39, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

I take it that the Wikipedia is the primary objective. This means that before the start of this project a full MediaWiki localisation and the localisation of the MediaWiki extensions will be required. GerardM 12:11, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is the primary objective but Wiktionary is being worked on at the same time because the two projects complement each other. Girmitya 23:00, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
