Site requests

This page has advice for users of particular Wikimedia projects who want to request technical changes for their specific project (eg Latvian Wikipedia, German Wikisource).

In general:

• Be specific about what change you want to be made, and why (how it will improve things)
• Gather support from your community (e.g. hold a poll)
• Open a bugzilla: request, with ("Wikimedia" > "Site requests" and keyword "shell")
• Bug the relevant server admins to implement it

Change of site settings

Settings such as $wgCapitalLinks (determines if first letter of page name should be case sensitive - by default it is not, but this is useful for Wiktionary) - that is, configuration settings, should be uncontroversial.

Custom functionality

Check MediaWiki for extensions that might do what you want. Extensions are not all equally reliable. Some will never be implemented on Wikimedia projects for performance reasons.

System administrators

Only System administrators are able to implement site requests. Furthermore, not all are willing to. Making contact with Rob Halsell is recommended for these requests.
