A few comments:

The items included in the survey were chosen quickly by a small group, as a way of offering a rule of thumb about priority. More care should be given to the matrix elements. I remember we discussed some other major areas as potential matrix elements - I believe after this first one had been proposed; so they were not included in that initial survey.

  • Content expertise (archives, reference works, publishing)
  • Technical expertise (software development, technical project management)
  • Movement expertise (organization, messaging, leadership)
  • Fundraising expertise

Some more thought is needed to balance the different items so they are directly comparable. "Effectiveness", "Diversity", and "Expertise" are comparable. The specific examples of diversity are comparable. Most of the examples of expertise are comparable; though "Mobile expertise" is too specific. "Technical expertise (particularly mobile & web)" would be more comparable.

There's only one option for effectiveness, so it's not surprising that it ended up at the top of the total allocation. Similarly, the over-specific Mobile ended up at the bottom.

It might be more informative to decide a few high level areas to consider (effectiveness/diversity/expertise seem like a reasonable start) and then to do this sort of allocation exercise within each of those areas. SJ talk  18:05, 19 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
