Talk:Del.icio.us-style Tags for MediaWiki

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Added:

  • A way to start of might be to use categories. An enable that category pages can be included in templates. Then one could have for example a dynamic driven start page depending on the content of categories.
  • A nice feature would also be to have tag clouds with subcategories with different sizes of words depending on number of listings.

Hopefully this is useful.

External tags[edit]

Even if an external tag service is not used for tagging Mediawiki articles, it would still be userful to have links to the various tagging services (w:del.icio.us, w:reddit, w:digg, w:technorati, w:furl, etc.) to make it easier to tag the articles. Perhaps a box could be added below the navigation, search, and toolbox boxes on the left. Many websites, expecially news websites, have started adding this feature, and I've found it useful for quickly tagging webpages that I've found interesting. For an exmaple of a MediaWiki wiki doing this, see http://editthis.info. BlankVerse 02:15, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Status?[edit]

We are working on a quite similar idea at the JKU. Perhaps we can coordinate our activities. Therefore it would be interesting if this is just an idea or if anyone has already started with additional work for this item. --EdmundMielach 18:00, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Similar proposal at English Wikipedia[edit]

Though I'm not exactly sure what Del.icio.us is about, we may be working on something similar at the English Wikipedia which we are calling "Category intersection". The basic idea is to make categories work like tags with minimal changes to the software. We have created a description with mock-ups of how it might work. Please come and take a look. -- SamuelWantman 06:56, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
