Seeking 2022-23 reports[edit]

The report at Community_Resources/Reports/Funding_Report_2022-2023 says that the Education program at Education/Reading_Wikipedia_in_the_Classroom/For_Certified_Trainers awarded 4 grants totaling US$39,000. I am writing to identify available information about these grants and any associated programs with this cohort.

Questions:

  1. Are the 4 grants public on the wiki in the way that other community grants are? Otherwise, what information is available about them?
  2. Is the 2022-23 Certified Trainers cohort finished?
  3. Is there a final report on the overall Certified Trainer program for that year?
  4. Are there any final reports for the awarded grants?
  5. Has the Certified Trainer program published plans for 2023-24 activities?

thanks

Hi Lane, thanks for these questions! :)
  1. Are the 4 grants public on the wiki in the way that other community grants are? Otherwise, what information is available about them? These grants were specific for participants graduating from the ToT cohorts. The proposals were evaluated by WMF staff using a specific rubric. There isn't a lot of info publicly available right now but we are planning to include it in the ToT report (more on that further down). Going forward, Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom implementations will be supported by the Wikimedia Community Fund (the Foundation's main grantmaking program). A few examples of where this is already happening (1, 2, 3).
  2. Is the 2022-23 Certified Trainers cohort finished? The last cohort was hosted in late 2022, there haven't been any cohorts in 2023 as the program was paused. The list of all participants who completed the cohorts is here
  3. Is there a final report on the overall Certified Trainer program for that year? We have data compiled from the 3 cohorts (2021-2022) but we haven't finalized the report yet. We're hoping to publish it together with info on the RWiC grants, and next steps from the trainers network by the end of Q2 (end of calendar year 2023).
  4. Are there any final reports for the awarded grants? There were two rounds of grants, some trainers from the second round are still finishing their reports so hoping we can have all that data public soon too through the report mentioned above.
  5. Has the Certified Trainer program published plans for 2023-24 activities? Nope, we're focusing for now on supporting existing trainers and their initiatives, and supporting a localized teacher training led by Wikimedia Colombia in 2024 with the Colombian Ministry of Education. More info on that project will be coming out in the coming months.
Hope this is helpful!

@BVershbow (WMF): Great, thanks. Please ping me when the 2023 report comes out.
I will link to this info from the story in en:WP:Signpost. I logged the badging program at Talk:Badges#Wikimedia_Foundation_education_reading_badges. I have long wished that we had a badging program here. Bluerasberry (talk) 14:22, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
