Uzi is not a machine gun[edit]

(Originally I commented this on the parent article's talk page: Talk:List of articles every Wikipedia should have/Expanded#Uzi is not a machine gun.)

This is another case of pop culture English firearm related terms being ill-defined. "Machine gun" is often used in US to refer to firearms which can fire more than one shot with one actuation of the trigger (i.e. guns capable of full auto or burst fire). But the linked Wikidata item (machine gun (Q12800)) is for a different concept, the actual machine gun: fully automatic rifle designed for sustained direct fire with rifle cartridges. They are heavy, usually either mounted on vehicles and structures or portable, but equipped with a bipod or tripod. And usually belt-fed.

Meanwhile Uzi is a submachine gun - a fully automatic carbine in pistol caliber. This is not a subclass of machine guns. Thus, Uzi should not be listed as a subpoint of machine gun. --134.191.220.85 20:10, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Such a change is trivial, you can just do it. — Yerpo Eh? 19:17, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Yerpo: I did it, however now Uzi is its own separate item, listed before "rifle", which might not be desirable. Perhaps the ordering (or even the items chosen) should be rethought? --134.191.221.82 12:31, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
