Page moved[edit]

I've moved the page from potentially offensive content to potentially offensive images. This idea is aimed specifically at a problem with images so we should be clear about this. —Christiaan 12:24, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Focusing on images[edit]

It is controversial images that have triggered the discussion surrounding this issue and images alone. The reason for this is that images are immediate; there is no other way to avoid them when surfing to a page other than to have them turned off or hidden. In this sense they a kind of push media. I've made edits to correlate the article with this. —Christiaan 15:49, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Descriptive image tagging[edit]

Wikipedia:Descriptive image tagging is very similar to End-user image suppression and Potentially offensive images. I think it would be worth merging and redirecting Wikipedia:Descriptive image tagging to here. —Christiaan 21:16, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)

There are three issues involved in any system for selectively hiding content: the mechanics of doing so, the selection of content to hide, and the overall "yes" or "no" of hiding content. As I see it, End-user image suppression is discussing a mechanism for tagging images, while Wikipedia:Descriptive image tagging suggests a set of tags to use. My concern is that if things are merged, then the discussion will get sidetracked and bogged down on the third point; this is what seems to have happened with en:Wikipedia:Image censorship, en:Wikipedia:Graphic and potentially disturbing images, and Offensive content. --Carnildo 23:04, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Yes, I think understand your point. And more so I think there are four facets to this discussion:
  1. the implications of implemention (End-user image suppression)
  2. the identification of categories that would be included as part of implementation (Potentially offensive images)
  3. the useful categorising of images (Wikipedia:Descriptive image tagging)
  4. and discussion about whether it's all desirable (Desirability of end-user image suppression)
I'm going to do some edits and clarifications that tie all these together, but I do think it's worth moving Wikipedia:Descriptive image tagging to meta:Wikimedia as it has implications for more than just en:Wikipedia. What do you think?

Moving to Meta sounds good. Is there some specific mechanism to do this, or do I just copy&paste, leaving a redirect behind? --Carnildo 18:12, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Yeah I think a cut and paste with a manual redirect would be best. Just remember to cut and save before pasting so comments do get made while your moving it. —Christiaan 09:06, 26 Feb 2005 (UTC)
