Comment[edit]

  • In a Wikipedia article, you need to write intelligibly for the (educated) lay-person (writing is harder, but content is easier) - I'm not sure I would say the content is easier - NPOV and NOR is often tough for academics to absorb. Moreover, getting the balance of articles right for Wikipedia is often quite difficult. Wikipedia has its own expectations of what an encyclopedia should cover, for example. Who knew that "X plant in culture" would be so important? Awadewit 21:21, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Length[edit]

These notes seem to be for a talk longer than 45 minutes. :) Awadewit 21:22, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Comprehensiveness[edit]

Since this is the first talk, doesn't it have to describe Wikipedia a bit more? I'm really only seeing a description of articles here. However, to really get a feeling for Wikipedia, the audience needs to understand that it is a community with an organized "government" of sorts. I think we need to at least mention this - editors work in various communities. Article-writing is one community (that is what we are going to focus on). I also think we need to describe what a wiki is a bit more - just in case the audience does not really know. Awadewit 21:28, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
