Implementation task filled[edit]

Hi everyone, FYI, I've filled phab:T341159) as an implementation task. It will be announced in Tech/News once implemented as well. Regards, Martin Urbanec (talk) 09:58, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

This change is now implemented. Thanks everyone. Best, Martin Urbanec (talk) 13:27, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
We should probably update Global AbuseFilter right? --Johannnes89 (talk) 15:28, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Good point. Done. Feel free to make other changes as well. Martin Urbanec (talk) 15:48, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Dewiki concerns[edit]

This discussion was moved from the RfC itself, where it was added after its closure. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 10:54, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Note @Martin Urbanec: Pls. see Veto in de:Wikipedia_Diskussion:Bearbeitungsfilter#Global_RfC_filled_to_enable_global_abuse_filters_on_large_Wikimedia_projects_by_default. The german communitiy has not been informed properly. Before use of this filter there has to be a legitimation for de:WP what has been requested now. Best Tom (talk) 08:29, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

The dewiki community has been informed just like any other project affected by this RfC. Tom doesn't want to accept global rules and tries to „veto“ this due to some personal dislike for me (I announced the implementation of this RfC yesterday at dewiki). Our community is aware of the option to opt-out and might consider to do so – until we do global filters are legitimately active at dewiki as well per this RfC. --Johannnes89 (talk) 10:06, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

End of moved discussion. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 10:54, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Tom, as Johannnes89 already noted, I've informed the German community about the RfC via this message when it started. This is the regular procedure for global changes, and all comments from all projects (in all languages) are welcomed and considered when RfCs are closed. Of course, an opt out is always possible -- the RfC was never meant to force deployment of the global filters to any wiki, merely to change the default deployment status. Sincerely, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 11:06, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

While dewiki is deciding if they want to opt out, if there are any breaking (read disallow filters that have high false positives) that need urgent attention, please post at RFH. — xaosflux Talk 12:17, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Just to make this clear: in 2014 we hat a big dispute with WMF concerning de:Wikipedia:Superuser. The german community of de:WP has never given away and has proven their autonomy. If somebody from here makes any service as f.e. an oilchange of a gearbox ... thats fine. But if you believe, that a note in our technical department would be sufficient for any changes which might have consequences going so far as the functionallity of global ban abuse filter, you are wrong (schwer auf dem Holzweg).
If you have any doubts about how to behave pls. keep in mind https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Policy:Universal_Code_of_Conduct
  • Abuse of office by functionaries, officials and staff:
    • use of authority, knowledge, or resources at the disposal of designated functionaries, as well as officials and staff of the Wikimedia Foundation or Wikimedia affiliates, to intimidate or threaten others.
  • Abuse of seniority and connections:
    • Using one's position and reputation to intimidate others. We expect people with significant experience and connections in the movement to behave with special care because hostile comments from them may carry an unintended backlash. People with community authority have a particular privilege to be viewed as reliable and should not abuse this to attack others who disagree with them.

Hi there, not sure if that was meant to be directed just to me. I don't care if dewiki wants to opt out of this, all I was saying is that in the interim if there is anything breaking please post to a place where we have many volunteers, including me, that will be able any willing to quickly react to any unforeseen disruption. — xaosflux Talk 17:51, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
