Binary and UTF-8

I think it would be better to write:

CREATE DATABASE wikipedia
DEFAULT CHARACTER SET binary;

in p.5 here. Because dumps are in binary format. There will be serious problems, if someone tries to import non-english binary SQL-dump as utf8 or latin1 or something. --CodeMonk 17:53, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

How to write a query like...

How to write a query like this: "A list of articles on language X which do not have an interwiki to language Y, sorted by the number of interwikis the article has on language X"? -- Mathias Schindler 07:43, 16 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Passwords in database dump

Hey, are the wikipedia etc. passwords contained in the database dump? Wouldn't be that good... Actually, what stuff is contained in the dump? Thanks, --Abdull 12:07, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The passwords are not included. --w:user:unforgettableid

Why Windows only

MySQL is portable and I basically all this should work in Linux and OSX fine with a slight amount of modification. Are we assuming Linux and Mac users are smart enough to know how to make database dumps? 58.69.3.194 05:03, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

Add new widget to cy-wiki

Our community at Welsh language Wikipedia has agreed to trial the Vocab widget. Where do I ask for this to happen? It means adding a bit of HTML code, but I'm not sure where. The button to toggle Vocab on/off needs to appear on every page. Diolch! Llywelyn2000 (talk) 10:45, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

@Llywelyn2000: Hi! This page is no longer used but I'll take a stab at answering as well as pointing you in the direction of more active pages :) Any user with local admin permissions could add it however as that JavaScript code involves transmitting user information to an website external to the Wikimedia Foundation, this should absolutely not be done. I know this might be frustrating but it is for the safety and privacy of Wikimedians. For future reference, queries of this kind are probably best directed at Wikimedia Forum.
