This is the place to discuss specific issues around this template, however it may be more effective for now to raise issues on Talk:Stewards/elections_2007

Substitution check[edit]

I wouldn't call this [1] a good fix, for it leaves behind a piece of unwanted wikicode on the candidate page permenantly. Hillgentleman 20:55, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The following code substitutes cleanly when substituted, but some code is visible if not substituted (the big red text draws attention to the important message). I've added it to the template.
Code {{<includeonly>subst:</includeonly>#if:{{{emptyvar|}}}||{{error:not substituted|:Stewards/elections_2007/statements/CandidateTemplate}}}}
Output (subst'd)
Output (not subst'd) {{subst:#if:||This template must be substituted. Replace {{:Stewards/elections_2007/statements/CandidateTemplate}} with {{subst::Stewards/elections_2007/statements/CandidateTemplate}}.}}

Thanks for the fix. I have to remember this for later use elsewhere. :) ++Lar: t/c 20:14, 23 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's documented at w:User:Pathoschild/Help/Template special effects. :) —{admin} Pathoschild 23:24:40, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Or you can use {{subst:void| your notice and other stuff}}, or, better, {{subst:ns:0| stuff}}. They all give the same result. "Ns:0" has the advantages that it is internal, and that for most people it doesn't make sense and so would be ignored. Hillgentleman 00:07, 24 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
