Talk:Wikimedia servers/hardware orders/wishlist

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Brion: Please give me a call about your hardware needs. We are an independent reseller of enterprise mid-range hardware. I am a strategic advisor working with clients to find the best solutions (cost effective or most productive) to fit their needs. I represent a company with a tremendous amount of vendor agnostic information. My job is to put that to work for you whether you buy from us or not.

From Daniel Cardenas: I noticed that for your severs you prefer fast expensive SCSI drives. I did a study at my company some 5+ years ago. The study conluded you get more performance for your dollars by buying cheap disks and more memory and perhaps more servers. This was done on windows machines, so may not be applicable to FOSS software. Windows does a good job of caching the disk.
