Goals[edit]
In my opinion, the Wiki Loves Africa - Zambia 2019 as a whole was a success. I met my goal to give an introduction to the behind the scenes of the Wikimedia commons and its sister projects, but was also able to achieve further both measurable and non-measurable results, including ones I had not thought of before. One of the big pointers is the start of the Zambian Wikipedia community which i hope will turn into a Zambian Wikimedia User Group.

| Engage existing editors to contribute to commons and its activities | 18 uploaders | The number of recruits from our activities was about 6% of the total number of uploaders, indicating that the number existing contributors could be about 94% of the total number of uploaders. Meaning that we enaged about 116 existing editors through our online campaign. |

- What worked well:
- Day 1 of the event was only introductory content about the competition (Wiki Loves Africa), Wikimedia projects focusing on Commons,
- The aim to establish a Zambian Wikipedia community.
- The level of awareness this contest has also created for Wikipedia in Zambia is outstanding. So, the creation of awareness worked really well.
- Our social media campaigns and the marketing flyers that we pasted across the city, really worked well cause people would e-mail us trying to find out more about Wiki Loves Africa and also when will the next one be and also when if we just be doing it in Lusaka or we will be going to other towns in Zambia
- Day 1 of the event was only introductory content about the competition (Wiki Loves Africa), Wikimedia projects focusing on Commons,
- What did not work so well?
- Well what did not work well for is number turn out of peole to the events. We did online registration and we had a very good online responce with over 50+ plus people signin up to attened the events but on the 1 February we had the 10 people who showed up. For the second event we did a second registration and we even called the people as a follow up to know if they will attend the event but 15 of February the number reduced some saying they will attend the last event to 7.
- The vanue for our award ceremony the Lusaka play house the time we to get the prices to book the vanue we where told a diffrence price but by the time the funds come in when we got back there we found the price had gone up from 3500ZMW to 11,000ZMW and so we had to look for a different place to host our ceremony.
- What would you do differently next time?
- We noticed that a bulk of the images uploaded were image that where out of Scope from the theme. Next time, we hope to deliberately ensure improved diversity in the type of images captured.
- During this event we started a Zambian Wikipedia community and with that platform we hope to bring in more people to the movement cause we are planning to hold some edit-a-thons through that we will be able to recruit some new members to the Wikipedia Community and so by the time the next Wiki Loves Africa comes we have enough members to take part in the competion.
- Have a big team. Although I do not feel like the low turn out to the events was affected by me working alone not I didnt have an expirenced team to work with they where learning from me how to do run the events, our (at least my) stress level were high I was forgeting some small things. Also, things always take more time than you think.
- We have signed an agreement with Bongo Hive for future events to host us at a low cost.

- ↑ In the request we put our target as 800+ but from the first day turnout we reduced it to 300 since we had a few people taking part.
- ↑ I set 800+ as a target originally but then i reduced this to 300+ cause the number of people that attened the first and second training where only 4 not knowing that more people where taking part through our social media channles.

Anything else you want to share about your project?
- I am so happy to see that some participants are continuing to upload images to commons, create and improve articles on the chichewa wikipedia! A few of them also to help organiser and or facilitate the next wiki loves africa competion.
- Am happy with the collaboration i got with Manic Creatives Zambia a digital marketing company in Zambia that offered to help with the growth of the online presence of the Wikipedia Community in Zambia. The other team that am happy with is Chalo Chatu team the support that was given during the events was massive.
