User talk:Christiaan
From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
Please do not start censoring wikipedia or any of the other wikimedia projects. GerardM 13:01, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)

- I do not harass you. It is no fun to do that. I do regret that you fail to understand that the freedom of expression is important. By allowing for censorship, you ensure that messages are not heard. This in turn will destroy our democracy as people will not be properly informed. GerardM 14:24, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)

- Please refrain from harrassing me with your straw man arguments on my user page. Please be aware that Wikimedia is not a democracy. —Christiaan 14:30, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Please refrain from censoring
By removing all the remarks from the talk page on your proposal to censor images, you make it appear as if your proposal is not controversial. In this article where you want it discussed why this proposal is good, you fail to give any reasons yourself. The best you can do is refer to a lengthy mail exchange on the en:wikipedia mailinglist. A list that has little bearing outside its en: scope.
You mentioned that Wikimedia is not a democracy. That is correct. I think I am not totally clueless in that department. What makes you so sure that what you do is correct ?
How did you validate your arguments
- Again, please do not harass me on my talk page with. Please do not dilute the meaning of censorship. Please post discussion regarding the desirability of end-user content suppression to the appropriate page. —Christiaan 12:42, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)
[edit] What do you want to achieve ?
You have over the last few days shown that you have this idea, this concept. Everybody should agree that it is a good idea. You are disapointed when people do not. You have reverted additions to this idea, this concept that states that your idea is controversial. The basis for your idea, concept is that it is the lesser of a few evils. In my opinion you have not considered the pervasiveness of censure.
Your unwillingnes to discuss this is highly frustrating to me. You do not allow others to express their opinion. You think that by making it a "technical" article all the other considerations can be kept away. Arguments that I have used have been rediculed and now when I have in frustration shown what a censor can do, you call for foul play.
I am pretty sure that there is little chance at this moment in time to have your scheme implemented. The subject has not been discussed on an appropriate level. I hope it will never be implemented as it would in my opinion be the end of a free encyclopedia. GerardM 15:47, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- I want to achieve the outline of a workable scheme. I am totally willing to discuss this with anyone, which is evidenced by my ample postings to February 2005 archive and Talk:Desirability_of_end-user_image_suppression. :Please, I ask again, do not harass me with your ad-hominem attacks and straw man arguments on my user page. —Christiaan 16:09, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Hi Christiaan, I just saw your note on my talk page from over a week ago. Sorry for the delay. Not sure what to say about this dispute now -- except to suggest that if you'd like a more timely response from me, perhaps it's better to drop me a message on my Talk page over on en.wikipedia.org (which I look at on a far more regular basis.) -- Llywrch 21:36, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Wikilabs and a new proposal with Wikikernel
I saw that you had originally proposed Wikilabs, and I am trying to get a viable seed wiki going along the lines that you suggested. I have no special attachment to the name Wikikernel, and Wikilabs is just as good as any, although it appears that you and I may have slightly different visions over what could be put onto such a project.
I would at least like your input on the new proposal I made here on Meta, and would like to join forces with you in terms of making a united front to try and get this project accepted. I've created some initial policy proposals for the new project, and an initial mission statement as well. My timeline is to have some public input for a couple of months followed by a formal vote that would take place some time this summer, preferably in June.
I am not trying to fight you on this proposal, but instead just want to Be Bold and get something accomplished. I've complained enough on Foundation-l that some people explictly block my e-mail account to avoid getting what they view as spam. Perhaps this is a better way to accomplish this task? --Roberth 18:57, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
