Decoding mdash and ndash[edit]

Depending on the font (and depending on one's visual acuity), it can be difficult to tell the difference between -, –, and —. Unless you can cite a guideline that discourages the use of mdash and ndash for coding clarity, please do not "decode" them in this script. "Manually" re-coding them is significantly more difficult than running this script. Scripts should not facilitate unhelpful practices.

The same argument could be made for other character entity references, but I'm not concerned with that at this time; any improvement is an improvement. Thank you. 161.97.225.237 16:22, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
