Chapters and Offline Participation

Wikimedia Hong Kong and Wikimedia Macau are two chapters in China.[1]. Several of their project include "Smile to Support Wikipedia for World Heritage" and Wikimania 2013 bid in Hong Kong. There are two female members sitting in the board of HK chapter, and one of them is the current Deputy President. [2]. There are also a number of female fellows offering offline help in the HK's Wikimania bidding team.

Chinese Wikipedia rank 10 out of 280 language Wikipedia with 203 million visit per month. It has 230 very active contributors (more than 100 edit per month) and 173 active contributor (more than five edits per month)

However Wikipedia is not the only online Wikipedia in Chinese, there are local Chinese language online encyclopedia also a widely used.

Netball is one of the most popular women's participation sports in former and current Commonwealth countries. There is 1 article about netball in Hong Kong on English Wikipedia. In December 2011, according to Alexa, Wikipedia was ranked the 70th most popular site in the country.[3] In December 2011, elections were held for English Wikipedia's Arbitration Committee.

Other projects

A December 2011 search on English Wikinews for Women China found 93 articles that mentioned both words.[4] A December 2011 search on Spanish Wikinews for China found 26 articles that mentioned both words.[5] In December 2011, according to Alexa, Wikinews was ranked the 34,510th most popular site in the country.[6]. The Foundation

During the December 2011 fundraising appeal, no Chinese, men or women, were featured are part of the appeal. During the 2011 Summer of Research, the WMF hired eight research fellows. Of these, only one was female, and she was from the United States. There were four males from American universities. The other researchers included men from a Japanese university, a Swiss university and a Canadian university. There were no research fellows, male or female, from this country.
