維基媒體基金會理事會於2008年3月4日公布，香港維基媒體協會已獲認可為維基媒體的正式地方分會。臨時理事會將舉辦活動，和大家分享這份喜悅。

The Board of Trustees of the Foundation officially recognized Wikimedia Hong Kong as a Wikimedia Chapter on 5 March 2008. The Provisional Directory will launch celebration activities, to share the joy with the community members.
