Welcome to Wikimedia Philippines, a chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) serving the Philippines and Filipino communities abroad. In line with our aims and objectives, we hope to promote and defend the cause of free media and content in the Philippines, as well as those made by Filipinos in other countries.
Wikimedia Philippines operates under the laws of the Republic of the Philippines as a non-stock, non-profit corporation duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under the name Wikimedia Philippines Inc.
The conception of Wikimedia Philippines came to be on May 20, 2007 at the first informal meeting of Filipino Wikipedians at SM Megamall in Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City. However, Wikimedia Philippines was first proposed as a cooperative on September 13, 2006, only becoming a corporation on February 11, 2007.
After having the Wikimedia Philippines chapter approved by the Wikimedia Foundation (with the recommendation of the Chapters Committee) on March 12, 2010, the Articles of Incorporation and By-laws were signed by the incorporators on March 28, 2010 and filed those documents at the Securities and Exchange Commission in the Philippines on April 8, 2010.
Wikimedia Philippines' Certificate of Incorporation was approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on April 12, 2010 and signed by Benito A. Cataran, Director of Company Registration and Monitoring Department with Company Reg. No. CN201005637. The certificate was released on April 16, 2010 at the SEC office in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
