WIKIMEDIA PHILIPPINES

Welcome to Wikimedia Philippines, a proposed chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) serving the Philippines and Filipino communities abroad. In line with our aims and objectives, we hope to promote and defend the cause of free media and content in the Philippines, as well as those made by Filipinos in other countries.

[edit] Background

Wikimedia Philippines will be organized under the laws of the Republic of the Philippines as a non-stock, non-profit corporation duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In addition, it will seek recognition as a charitable organization from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), as well as tax-exempt status from the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

The conception of Wikimedia Philippines came to be on May 20, 2007 at the first informal meeting of Filipino Wikipedians at SM Megamall in Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City. However, Wikimedia Philippines was first proposed as a cooperative on September 13, 2006, only becoming a corporation on February 11, 2007.
