Briefly summarize your project proposal.
- Oro is a town in Irepodun local government area in Kwara State having over 3,000 people of all ages residing in that area.Having being an active inhabitant of that area for a year ,it was glaring that the inhabitants including students,youths and professionals alike do not have proper digital literacy skills, knowledge sharing and community engagement.
- This project is targeted at the widespread effective use of Wikipedia and it's sister projects among the residents of Oro .Wikipedia, the world's largest online encyclopedia, has revolutionized access to information and serves as a valuable educational resource. By introducing Wikipedia to the community, we aim to empower and train the people of Oro with the tools and skills necessary to access, contribute, and utilize this vast knowledge repository.
- Also,By leveraging the power of Wikipedia, we can bridge the information gap and empower the residents of Oro to become active contributors to the world's collective knowledge.

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- One Physical and in person training with an edit a thon contest spanning up for three weeks.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
- Our target participants are individuals of all background including students of the Federal College of Education Oro, youths and anyone interested in expanding their knowledge and making a positive impact.
- Awareness: Prior to the event we will be distributing E fliers to the designated social media platform of Oro local community Youth Forum and the telegram channel of the Federal College of Education Oro students to generate interest and awareness about the upcoming event .We will create a WhatsApp group for the interested participants and pass out regular information as regards the commencement of the event.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Yes, the participants are student,youths and professionals who would have smartphones and laptops for an easy flow of knowledge during the training, other equipments like an extension box , mifi/router would be provided.
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- To ensure that the momentum from the event carries forward and that the participants continue to explore and contribute to the wealth of information available online.
- We have prepared a comprehensive resource package that includes helpful guides, video tutorials, and reference materials. - The participants will Join as members of the Wikimedia Ilorin online community of Wikipedia enthusiasts and contributors. This platform will provides a space for knowledge sharing, discussions, and collaborations. Engage with fellow participants, exchange ideas, and seek guidance from experienced editors and facilitators.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
- The benefits of introducing Wikipedia and its sister projects to Oro are manifold. Firstly, it will provide the community with free access to a vast array of information spanning various subjects, including science, history, culture, and much more. This access to reliable and comprehensive knowledge will help individuals broaden their horizons, foster critical thinking, and encourage lifelong learning.
- Secondly, by encouraging local residents to actively participate in editing and creating content on Wikipedia, we can ensure that Oro's unique heritage, traditions, and achievements receive the recognition they deserve. It will enable the community to showcase its rich cultural tapestry to a global audience, promoting cultural exchange and fostering pride in local identity.
- In addition to the immediate benefits, the project will have a long-term impact on Oro's educational landscape. By integrating Wikipedia editing into the curriculum of local schools, we can nurture research and critical thinking skills among students. They will gain firsthand experience in conducting research, verifying information, and effectively communicating their ideas—an essential skill set for the digital age
- The General friendly space policy for Wikimedia events will be summarized and to be read at the beginning of each event to remind the participants and the organizers of the importance of a friendly space policy.
