Hello, Falanster: Thank you for submitting this application for a Rapid Grant. We will need a start and end date, and an amount in local currency (BYR) to continue our review of your application. In the future, please do start your applications using the tool provided at Grants:Project/Rapid/Apply. This time, we had to do quite a bit of manual work to get your application set up in the proper format.

This is a straight-forward request for equipment to help your user group with events where computers are needed. Thank you for setting up a good system for tracking the equipment, including on-wiki tracking and agreements with the users of the equipment. We have just a few questions!

  1. I feel I must ask, why four laptops and five computer mice? :)
  2. If you were to receive funding for two laptops rather than four (with the option to request more equipment later on after we see some results), how would this impact your goals?

Thank you!Winifred Olliff (WMF Program Officer) talk 17:16, 10 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello Winifred Olliff (WMF Program Officer),
Here is our answers:
  1. Sometimes we have unexpected situation with participant's mouse. Sure, we can live without this one :)
  2. I think it will be better than nothing, but our tech deficit will remain especially on WikiCamp (midsummer) where we are going to invite 15-17 participants (mostly rural area pupils).

Thanks for the answers, Mr. Zabej. Before moving forward with a decision, we will need a start and end date for your grant, and we will need to know whether you would receive your grant in local currency (BYR) or USD. Thank you for adding this information directly to the request page. This grant is approved in full. Four laptops is a lot for one equipment request, but we see strong community support for this application and it looks like you have some clear plans in place to make use of this equipment. Finally, we appreciate that you have budgeted frugally for several inexpensive laptops rather than for one expensive piece of equipment. We hope this gives a needed boost to your growing community in Belarus. Janice and Morgan will be in touch to arrange the details of the grant. That is a good news. We will do our best to develop a local Wikimedia community. --Mr. Zabej (talk) 10:54, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

How to spend remainder?[edit]

There is a reminder around of 100 USD of the grant (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Falanster/Technical_Update)

We have several ideas how to spend them below: 1/ to buy headphones for laptops. It helps us to make calls in one room with remote members (or other affiliates) and collaborate a more efficient way. 2/ to repair notebook for one of the wikimedian. It costs 20 USD

If it does not suit to spending for the grant we are ready to send back them.

What do you think about the issue? --Mr. Zabej (talk) 13:05, 18 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
