IMAP shared[edit]

What is IMAP shared exactly?

We have some addresses which redirect to a mailing list, but I guess that is not quite the same thing. --pfctdayelise 01:32, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Simply, a box with IMAP access by 2-3-... users (I think that's what Erik war referring to). --Nemo 01:41, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jargon[edit]

Can someone change the page to expand on the jargon and abbreviations. Not everyone is a techie you know! Thanks AndrewRT 15:58, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Own OTRS systems[edit]

I don't know if it makes sense to install dozens of OTRS systems. Maybe chapter could cooperate to do that toogether (at least EU chapters). WM-IT has just installed its own OTRS systems (which is going to be set up); if you're interested I may ask if it can be shared with other chapters. We have already done similar things for lists (WM-FR hosted some lists of WM-IT and now WM-CH hosts various chapters lists) and websites (chapters wiki). In the future such things may be managed with the "Toolserver EU shared company". --Nemo 11:02, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The principle reason why we're planning on setting up our own OTRS system is to avoid issues with privacy and data protection, particularly with fundraising. It also gives us more flexibility than the current WMF system does (e.g. being able to set default footers for emails that include the WMUK details that are required like the company number, address, etc.). Those issues will likely still be there with a chapter-shared OTRS system. Mike Peel 12:39, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wanting your own OTRS system is perfectly valid, but just a comment that the WMF system does offer you the ability to set your own default footers with the WMUK details, just change otrswiki:Response:Signature-wm-uk. Cbrown1023 talk 15:47, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ooh, thanks; I didn't know that. :-) Mike Peel 20:00, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
On privacy: this is indeed the main problem. At least for EU chapters a shared OTRS should be ok. --Nemo 06:50, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
