This page should be merged into International names for Village Pump. guillom 11:48, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And International names for Village Pump should be merged with Wikimedia projects which contains not only the village pump links, but also links to other important project pages like news, RfA, VfD, etc. Angela 14:43, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

International/English forii[edit]

I don't understand this distinction. While the "embassy" page or something like it might be useful, I wasn't aware that too many projects had a spot for discussion in English that was different from the main discussion pages. This seems like an arbitrary category and just doesn't seem to fit with how most Wikimedia projects are organized. If this is a common practice, I would like to be enlightened. Certainly embassy pages have been much neglected in the past, and perhaps this sort of page could help encourage the development of such a system.

I would also like to see associated mailing lists for each project, where one has already been created. Certainly there are mailing lists now for every separate sister project, and several for different languages as well. Even if they aren't very heavily used (like Textbook-l) it is still useful to know what they are in terms of reference. I am presuming that this is to build up a list of communications locations to make large scale announcements on multiple projects.

I'll certainly try to offer my support to this page, however. Such a list is quite useful for many purposes. --Roberth 16:56, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for understanding the sense of this list :) This is not "did you know" data (like International names for Village Pump is) nor general info about projects (like Wikimedia projects is). Yes, we need mailing lists, too, as well as we need a little bit better table design :) Maybe IRC channels, too? So we are able to program a bot who would announce something on all three communication types. Something more? Press people? --Millosh 19:20, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, maybe all of the data should be inside of templates (like {{pub.en.wikipedia}}, {{post.pub.en.wikipedia}} or something similar), which may be useful for including this into other pages. BTW, such data should be protected because bots should use them automatically. --Millosh 19:20, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
About embassies... When we redesigned our village pump on sr.wikipedia, we added page village pumps for English, French and "other languages". (We removed French when our only Wikipedian who fluently speaks French became inactive.) Embassy exists, but it is not alive project. --Millosh 19:20, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have any kind of personal opinion related to that issue (I just copied the situation from sr.wikipedia). The only need is to have a page on every project for communication in English (or any other lingua franca). And this may be village pump or embassy or whatever. We just need to know what is the right page for announcements. --Millosh 19:20, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Village pump?[edit]

I think it would be nice if there would be one more column in these tables named: Meaning or something similar. For example, Village pump in Serbian is called Trg, meaning Square, etc. This way, we could see how the phrase Village pump is "translated" in different Wikis. --Matija
