Web2Cit templates and tests[edit]

Hi, @Oronsay! Thank you very much for the Web2Cit configurations you have contributed, such as those for www.booksandpublishing.com.au. Just a couple comments to help you make these and future contributions more useful:

  • Please, make sure that template paths point to specific URLs (e.g., /articles/2014/03/06/29655/williamson-appointed-fiction-editor-at-island/) rather than generic URL patterns (e.g., /articles/**).
  • Also, please define translation tests for every template you define, so other Web2Cit collaborators know what the expected output should be, and they can help maintain and improve the templates.

You can read more about these suggestions here. Thank you! Diegodlh (talk) 21:31, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've updated www.booksandpublishing.com.au configuration files as an example:
  • templates: changed the template path from /articles/** to /articles/2014/09/18/31319/bbc-national-short-story-award-shortlist-announced/ to make it specific (and also fixed the date procedure);
  • tests: added a translation test for /articles/2014/09/18/31319/bbc-national-short-story-award-shortlist-announced/.
This should reflect in the domain's test result page in the next few hours: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Web2Cit/monitor/au/com/booksandpublishing/www/results.
Let me know if you have any questions! Diegodlh (talk) 21:55, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, @Diegodlh. I will have a good look at it and try to replicate in my other examples. I had looked at your earlier request and found it complicated, but didn't have brainpower to absorb help so failed to ask. Oronsay (talk) 22:50, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply! Briefly, I see you have created translation templates for other three domains: www.austlit.edu.au, socialsciences.org.au and www.theguardian.com:
  1. For each domain, choose a specific URL based on which each template may have been defined. For example, https://www.austlit.edu.au/austlit/page/C267513.
  2. Go to https://web2cit.toolforge.org/, type in the URL chosen above and click on "Extract":
    1. Click on "edit" beneath "Translation output" to edit translation templates. Change invalid template paths (e.g., /austlit/page/*) to valid specific paths (e.g., /austlit/page/C267513) and save.
    2. Click on "edit" beneath "Expected output" to edit translation tests. Add a new test for the same path (e.g., /austlit/page/C267513), indicate the expected output for each translation field and save. See Web2Cit#Add_a_translation_test for more info.
Let me know if I can help you in any way! Cheers, Diegodlh (talk) 12:41, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
