Indonesia [edit]
The Republic of Indonesia is the world's largest archipelago state consist of 17,508 islands. The population is 225 million people in 2007 and Indonesia is the world's fourth most populous country. The nation's capital city is Jakarta.
Indonesia internet user potential [edit]
In 2000, according to the Indonesian Association of Internet Service Providers, the number of internet users in Indonesia grew by 180 percent. By comparison, usage in Singapore and Malaysia increased by 115 and 90 percent, respectively. The number of internet users in Indonesia is expected to more than triple in 2001 from approximately 1.2 million users to 4 million. In 2007 only 6 percent of Indonesian "log on" to Wiki sites. Additional content in local languages is desperately needed.
Wikimedia Foundation projects [edit]
The Indonesian language Wikipedia as the Wikimedia Foundation first project in a language of Indonesia started in 2003, other projects like wikisource, wikibooks, wikiquotes and other wikipedia in local dialect follows and continue to grew.
Wikimedia Indonesia [edit]
Wikimedia Indonesia discussion initiated in 2006 as the need arises to have a formal body ready to established connections with the media and cooperation with other official entity such as government, businesses, and academies. In 2008 it is agreed that it will took form as a not for profit association under the law of Republic of Indonesia, with the members through their General Meetings of Members holds the highest authority.
The Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws were done on 2 and 5 May 2008 (only minor updates and typo correction afterward). In the end of 2010 the bylaws received a more detailed feedback from Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Right and currently undergo a review.
Wikimedia Indonesia projects [edit]
Wikimedia Indonesia support Wikimedia Foundation project offline by spreading the word of the project existance through meetings, seminars, and media interviews. In the near future, Wikimedia Indonesia is planning to have its own local projects in enriching local contents using media wiki format to promote collaboration and contributions. Activities [edit]
Currently Wikimedia Indonesia activities evolve around initiating seminars, workshop, and media relation. Hopefully with additional funding we can spread the free source movement to other areas and inspire local future leaders to do the same for greater good.
Upcoming, on August 2008, is a seminar arranged by the Ministry of Research and Technology and Indonesian Wikipedia Community to introduce Wikipedia bahasa Indonesia and its sister projects followed with a workshop. Last year we conducted a similar one.
Founders and membership [edit]
- Wikimedia Indonesia was incorporated by notarial deed on 05 September 2008 with 19 founders. Currently the Articles of Incorporation was submitted for Ministry of Law and Human Rights approval.
- Board of Trustees approval as Wikimedia Chapter was gained on 07 October 2008.
