Community Wishlist Survey 2017/Archive/New user right: Project sysop

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

New user right: Project sysop

NoN Proposes a change in policy, rather than a technical feature

  • Problem: Many language versions of the sister projects have a small community and no or just a few active admins. In my case I am very active on Wikivoyage, I am admin and bureaucrat on four language versions. But I can not help other small Wikivoyages. I need admin rights for deleting spam and installing/configuring features. People ask me for help but I can not. If I apply for admin right on e.g. Vietnamese WV, it is limited to one or three month. I have to reapply on and on. This process makes me tired. Even my adminship on WV/uk is limited although I finished an application on this wiki. My global sysop application was denied due to no inter wiki skills, but I have no time to edit in other projects just to get these needed inter-wiki skills. A sysop right for a whole project (like Wikivoyage) would be extremly useful to help the small wikis and roll out own features (like our maps or listings editor)
  • Who would benefit: All small wikis.
  • Proposed solution: New user right.

This is a policy proposal, and as such it's out of scope for our survey. Regardless, thanks for participating! Max Semenik (talk) 19:45, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
