Egypt Wikimedians (EGWUG) is a Wikimedia user group that aims to promote Wikimedia projects and free content, Support Wikimedia movement, Develop educational content, Discovering and disseminating knowledge and culture in Egypt, and support all volunteers inside Egypt, as well as Egyptian volunteers abroad around the world.

The User Group Founded in May 2014, and Recognized by WMF affiliations committee in July 2014, as the second user group in MENA region and the 4th in Africa. (Read The User Group Charter »)

The WikiAwareness Project, founded in 2019, aims to raise awareness about Wikimedia projects and encourage volunteering, Through lectures, designs, educational videos, and social media posts. (Read more ») The User group's technical club was founded in 2024 and is dedicated to supporting development, programming, and technical activities in order to serve Wikimedia projects or free and open software. An internal team founded in 2024, for photographers and photography activities, competitions, and supporting the concept of free images. (Read more ») GLAM project in Egypt, founded in 2025, A project dedicated to User group's (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) activities in Egypt. (Read more »).
Wikipedian Light of Knowledge (WLK) An initiative that was launched separately in 2019, but now it is part of EGWUG. The initiative aims to participate as an education program across universities, whether students or graduates, with the aim of making Wikipedia part of their academic activity and volunteering in it, as well as benefiting from different specializations in enriching Wikipedia. Our Members

According to User Group's Bylaw a full member must meet the following conditions:
  • Members must be permanent residents of Egypt (nationality is irrelevant) or Egyptian citizens residing abroad.
  • They must be at least 14 years old.
  • They must have a Wikimedia account and at least 100 contributions across all projects.
  • Members must agree to abide by the group's charter, code of conduct, and internal regulations.

There are no membership fees at the moment, an if a member does not meet the first condition, he/she can obtain honorary membership.
