This is, of course, a defective or-ganisation, and the nurses who graduate from this schoolhave not acquired a general knowledge of nursing. Atpresent the Secretary of Health and Charities is givingthe school a more scientific and practical organisation.He now intends that only graduate nurses shall take thisspecial course, and shall receive a diploma qualifyingthem to care for mental cases, provided, of course, thatthey pass the examinations. Our Manicocomium issituated some nine miles from Havana, on a large estate,and the asylum has accommodation for 2500 patients,which is an evil, because the unfortunate insane cannotbe sufficiently well attended, especially from the medicalpoint of view. The school for nurses annexed to this asylum will nowopen with ten undergraduate and eighteen post-graduatestudents, and eighteen young ladies
