Summary

Description
English: :Female chaffinch. Probably alarm call in presence of a sparrowhawk. The sparrowhawk was soaring directly above, clearly visible from the ground. The chaffinch was in the canopy (oak tree). The chaffinch was observed for 9:20 minutes, during which it sustained this call without pause. It stopped 3 minutes after the sparrowhawk had moved away.
Other birds, blue tit and goldfinch, did not behave alarmed. Chaffinches are much heavier than blue tits or goldfinches, so they are probably more likely to be preyed upon by sparrowhawks. Dunning (2008) "CRC Handbook of Avian Body Masses": Chaffinch 22-28g, blue tit 10g, goldfinch 16g.
Recorder Olympus LS-14, build-in stereo microphone, wind shield, no filter. Distance around 15m. Some wind and traffic noise.
