Golden Gem is a very attractive damselfly and is locally rare in Koraput, Odisha. The male has extensive golden-yellow markings on the thorax and abdominal segments. It has dark iridescence spot on the tip of the forewing. It also has white legs which it displays during fighting with rival males. Upper part of male's eye are brown and under part is pale. Black thorax with big and small yellow lines. Tip of the yellow abdomen is black and tappered. Wings are transparent and hind wings are smaller than fore wing. Black spots are on the tips of the fore wings. This is absent in tenerals. Females are very similar to the male but not very colourful like males.Female's have no black spots on the tips of the fore wings.

This species of damselfly is common all year throughout Eastern ghats in Koraput, Odisha and can be spotted along canals, ponds and lakes, though its preferred home is along the banks of rivers. They seem particularly docile in the early morning and late afternoon - the best time to photograph them.
