CIS-A2K/Reports/CIS-A2K Quarterly Report 2/Konkani

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Overview

[edit]

During this quarter, CIS-A2K was able to build closer ties with Dalgado Konknni Akademy and Nirmala Institute of Education to forward the work done in Roman and Devanagari script. In addition to this, CIS-A2K spoke with Konkani Wikipedians, Konkani linguists, professors from Konkani Department at Goa University, cultural and Sociology experts to propose a solution for Konkani Wikipedia that faces a problem of usage of multiple scripts. To a great extent we have got consensus from different field experts that we should strive to create separate Wikis for each script, at least those which prove to be active. CIS-A2K also organised translation sprint to help translate Media Wiki interface messages. We achieved translating 79% of these messages in Konkani Devanagari while all 100% messages have already been translated in Roman script.

Active Editors

[edit]

In Sep-Oct 2013, CIS-A2K started with Konknai Vishwakosh Digitization Project on Wikisource. A lot of editors who were earlier contributing to Konkani Wikipedia had now started contributing to Konkani Wikisource. It's mainly because of this shift from Wikipedia to Wikisource that we see less number of active editors in Oct 2013. Level of editing activity again dropped in Dec 2013 and this was primarily due to year end festive season.

Total Number of Articles

[edit]

The number of articles increased drastically in the month of Oct-Nov 2013 with an average of 30%. Though there was an incline in Dec 2013 too, but the increment was relatively low with an 8% increase. Once again, this marginal growth was due to seasonal editing and year end festivities in Goa.
