- Getting more Wikipedians and improving retention:
- According to analysis of Wikipedians like User:Bhaskaranaidu and User:Chaduvari, Telugu Wikipedia is witnessing many new editors signing up, some of them are making few worthy contributions and leaving the project without retaining here. So, developing a complete project to groom these Newbies & learners in Telugu Wikimedia Projects can be a viable project, along with grooming Wikimedians who are introduced to Wikipedia in the part of outreach.
- These Community members expressed their interest in working and building a project that aims to improve at least 25-50 New very active Wikipedians who will be part of Telugu Wikipedia Community by Next year.
- Telugu Wikipedian User:Chaduvari proposed and others like User:T.sujatha, User:రవిచంద్ర, etc., signed up for a project aiming to improve Retention and expand community with New very active Wikipedians.
- Some Wikimedians suggested that any further plans to improve quality or content can only be achieved by improving retention and expanding community with more number of very active wikimedians. Many of the current projects can be scaled up or even become successful by getting more number of people in community.
- Providing Resources to Wikipedians:
- Provide resources to Wikipedians in order to support them improving and creating articles if possible in digital medium.
- Create list of articles which are not having proper references or didn't have much content and provide references specifically for those articles.
- Create extensive list of references available online and publish it in Wikipedia to help Wikipedians improve.
- Earlier activities in engaging Telugu Wikimedians which yielded better outcome related to content & quality should be continued and sustained.
- A2K should focus on intentions and takeaways of partner organizations. If any partnership or discussion around it does not work according to the best interests of Wikipedia then should invest time on other potential partners.
- Increased user base in Telugu Wikisource helps energizing the project.
- Sustainability: Try to plan and conduct activities in co-organization and collaboration with community even for the sake of developing sustainability for every effort.
- Improving readership: Creating and disbursing quality content that gains momentum in readers will boast readership and also effects number of registered users & editors. Creating lists based on reader interests and needs can be useful for Wikimedians to work on them.
Improving Participation and Retention[edit]
Wiki-adoption Project[edit]

In collaboration with Telugu Wikipedian User:Chaduvari and other interested Wikipedians, A2K will support and improve project to improve retention and increasing number of Very active editors in Telugu Wikipedia. Core idea in this project is Wiki-adoption, in which interested existing Wikipedians will volunteer to follow-up and nurture new Wikipedians and learners to become good contributors. A2K is collaborating in planning and will continue supporting in execution especially to bring new and potential Wikipedians into project & introducing them to interested Experienced Wikipedian (Wiki-Guide). Will also connect other programmatic efforts of A2K to align with this project (ex: creating video resource that help Existing Wikipedians in their Wiki-adoption activity)
- Activity
- Creating and maintaining a portal for Wiki-adoption to assist Wikipedians who are contributing this project.
- Conducting Telugu Wikipedia Mini workshops to Communities of Interest, identifying potential Wikipedians who would retain from them and connect them to interested volunteers for Wiki-adoption.
- Sending out personalized messages to newbies & learners (via Wikipedia mailing system or Talk pages or other available means) who registered themselves in Telugu Wikipedia every week and connecting some of them who are looking for support to continue contribution to Wiki-adoption project.
- Supporting Existing Wikimedians working in Wiki-adoption by creating and providing useful video resources and other training material.

- Emerging at least 25 New Wikimedians who will become part of existing Telugu Wikimedia Community with at least 100 edits every month and retention for at least 3 months.
Telugu Wikipedia Mahilavaranam[edit]

Like many other Wikipedias around the globe, Telugu Wikipedia is also having a serious gender imbalance in participation. Only one contributor among 10 Very active Wikipedians with the highest number of edits is women. Also, 2 in 25 and 3 in 40 editors with the highest number of edits in Telugu Wikipedia are women. Taking inspiration from Telugu Wikipedia's previous attempts to bridge gender gap in content, A2K is planning to bridge it in participation.
- Activity
- Conducting series of mini-workshops in several places targeting women who are already could type in Telugu and writing in some digital platforms.
- Collaborating with women groups who are already in women studies or activism and contributing to digital platforms.
- Encouraging New Women Wikimedians started contributing to project to hold Wiki Kitty parties to learn new skills and improve collaborations.

- Bridging gender gap in participation by Bringing and Grooming at least 5 New Women Wikimedians becoming very active Wikipedians in Telugu Wikimedia Projects.
Telugu Wikisource Sprints[edit]

Telugu Wikisource contributors like User:శ్రీరామమూర్తి and User:Rajasekhar1961, Telugu Wikisource needs more users to improve from current state. Earlier attempt (Telugu Wikisource Workshop) to get more users to Telugu Wikisource proven successful especially in retaining New Wikimedians who already could type in Telugu, interested in literature and have enough time to contribute. Conducting sprints & workshops aiming participants specifically have those skills and time to contribute will result in expanding Telugu Wikisource community.
- Activity
- Collaborating with Social Media interest groups working on celebrating Telugu literature for consistent period of times and conducting Wikisource sprints and workshops.[1]
- Conducting Telugu Wikisource outreach activities to senior citizen clubs and organizations.
- Interested Wikimedians arriving from these activities will again be groomed under Wiki adoption Program.

- Enlisting and grooming at least 5 New Wikisource contributors who continue to contribute project as very active Wikimedians.

Telugu Wikipedia Library[edit]

In Community Needs Assessment Survey, Telugu Wikipedians like User:రవిచంద్ర, User:Ajaybanbi, and User:Meena gayathri.s shared their observation that Providing resources to Telugu Wikipedians who are already contributing and also started contributions is essential and encouraging for them to stay afloat and contribute. This was also proven true in our projects during previous work plans.
- Plan
- Creating and using indexes with keywords for resources: As there was massive scanning drives ongoing under partner organizations and scanned pdf copies of several resources available, A2K would create indexing with keywords to utilize them to provide useful resources on demand to Telugu Wikipedians.
- Activity
- Providing list of periodicals available currently and On seeking opinions of existing Wikipedia community, will select some of the periodicals useful to Telugu Wikipedians.
- Creating a detailed indexing with keywords for every issue available of the selected periodicals and publish them on-wiki under Wikipedia namespace.
- Providing articles of these periodicals as resources basing on keywords to Wikipedians from these periodicals under fair use to improve articles under topics they wanted to improve.
- Projection
- Project will be supporting 5 new Wikipedians to retain their contributions on-wiki and at least 5 existing Wikipedians to improve content on-wiki.
- At least 200 existing articles from Telugu Wikipedia will be improved using this resource.
- At least 100 new articles with proper resources and citations will be created and improved.

Conducting wiki-technical training sessions to Existing and New Wikipedians interested to improve Telugu Wikimedia Projects in Technical aspects. Event will help participants to learn about basic technical aspects that help Telugu Wikimedia projects
- Activities
- Conducting Wiki-Technical training sessions where Participants will learn aspects like how to file an issue in phabricator, etc.,
- Identifying Interested Wikimedians from community and connecting them to Volunteers who are improving Broader technical issues of Wikimedia projects.

- At least 5 Wikimedians who have not contributed to Media-Wiki or Technical side of the project learns Basic Technical aspects.
Wikipedia Resource Center[edit]

To support the efforts to improve retention, A2K will continue to create resources necessary to help Newbies and Learners in learning various aspects of "How to edit Wikipedia". Video, text and presentation forms of these resources will provide "Know-how" about Wikipedia right from "Creating account", "Logging in", "Creating User page", "Using Sandbox" to advanced aspects of Wikipedia editing. These resources should be effective, interesting, and sharable material. But, They are primariliy intended to support efforts of community and program persons to groom interested new users.

- Creating a road map on what all the aspects that should be covered in these resources
- Developing Video, PDF booklets & PPT Booklet forms of resources covering the aspects
- Every aspect should be covered in both Visual Editor and Mobile Editor. Some of these video resources will cover text editor too.
- Resources will be created for a beginner level users and will not be more than 2 minutes each (if video) or 10 pages (if pdf) to enable a quick view & quick share.
- Publishing the resources on Wikimedia Commons and making them available for Wikimedians to utilize them to groom Newbies & Learners.

- Conducting Mini Train-the-trainer session with New Wikimedians who started being very active in recent times and introducing earlier and ongoing community efforts to improve state of Telugu Wikimedia projects.

- At least 3-4 New Wikimedians who become very active in recent times being able to co-ordinate or co-organize online and offline activities as a result of Leadership Building activities.
Wiki-adoption co-ordination sessions[edit]

A2K will support efforts to conduct Sessions among the Wiki-Guides (Experienced Wikipedians signed up to guide in Wiki-Adoption Program) to improve co-ordination in conducting the project, brew strategies regarding project and share learnings among themselves.

- Independent review on overall programmatic activities: A2K will seek an independent review and report on Direction, Impact and practices of its intervention in Telugu Wikimedia Projects.

- ↑ During Telugu Wikisource Workshop A2K invited Ramesam and GSVS Murthy who are members of Whatsapp group that are discussing and commenting on several literary works in Telugu langauge for several years, both of them continued to contribute Telugu Wikisource regularly for several months (See relevant Outreach dashboard here) and now become part of community.
